Lots of Newness
So i haven't updated this in a while but i have good reason. since my computer dearly departed, I have had limited time to compute outside work (where i'd obviously get into trouble writing blogs!). But, i have ordered a new iMac (yay more debt!) and it SHOULD be arriving on Wednesday. we'll see how that goes but i'm still hopeful.
In other news, Thomas and I have moved, we now live in Ottawa in a lovely one bedroom apartment that we love. my dad came to visit this weekend and helped us fix it up a bit and put up pictures and such so it's even more cozy now. we're lacking in furniture a bit but that's ok - we have enough for now and hey, it makes the space look a lot bigger!
well i should get going, have to get to work.
i normally don't post links but...
ok so i normally don't post links and make too much fun of the odd things out there in this world, but....you have to check this out because it's hillarous. as if they think not shaving is going to do anything.
my POV? give it up girls, and put your energy into a worth cause. Making men shave is NOT more important than Cancer or AIDS.
i will keep on shaving...i like smooth legs and non-hairy armpits!
bye bye baby, baby goodbye...
My poor computer broke again and it's not worth fixing it because the part is too expensive, i might as well just buy a new computer. What i don't get is that they replaced the same part no less than 6 months ago.
Why do these things always happen at the worst times?
ah well. i guess i'll figure something out.
Web Manager/Graphic Designer
Ok so let me say for the record "Holy sh$% that happened fast!"
let me outline my "week" for you.
Sunday: Thomas' grandmother tells me about an add in the Ottawa paper about how Beddingtons needs a Web Manager/Graphic Designer.
Monday: I finish updating my portfolio again and apply for the job by emailing the name on the site.
Tuesday: I get a call from Beddingtons and have a phone interview. goes really well, get a face to face interview for the next day at 9:30am.
Wednesday: I go in for my interview, end up having interviews with 5 people at the company - good sign, end up being 1.5 hrs late for babysitting because of it. While babysitting, I get a call from Beddingtons saying they really like me and they want me to come in for a "trial run" the next day.
Thursday: I arrive at 8:30 for my trial run and stay there getting "trained" on everything for the morning. They tell me they are still interviewing and they'll call me next week. About 30 minutes after I leave they call me and OFFER ME THE JOB!!! HOLY COW BATMAN.
Friday: I go in for a couple hours in the morning to get finished training and sign all the paperwork!
yayayayyay. so I am now officially the new Web Manager for Beddington's Bed and Bath at their head office in Ottawa. I have a full time contract for a year and then I might be able to stay on there full time if they like what I do this year.
So this is very exciting and happened so very quickly. Thomas is still looking but I'm confident he'll find something.
Also, there may be movement on the apartment front. a friend of ours from school is moving to Toronto and he's said we could take over his lease. I'll post when I have official news.
So here's the thing...
Unfortunately, Survivor Network had to cancel camp this summer due to unforeseen circumstances. it makes me really sad, but it'll be ok. we're starting a major recruiting campaign so if any of my loverly readers knows anyone who might be interested in being involved with SN, tell them to head over to the brand new website, or if you'd like it, i have written a press release that i can get to you easily.
in other news, still searching for a job, today, the hardcore search is on seeing as our "in" at one job isn't making me feel like it's gonna happen.
time to get on with it!
Liz Out
Portfolio Done!
so after a weekend/week of intense work and finishing of school, i've finally finished my portfolio, and hey, it only took 58 hours.
but every moment was worth it because i really like it and i've received some nice words about it from people who don't give compliments easily.
so the official launch is right now
lizkerrison.cathat's right folks. i have my own domain name now too. i went all out.
check it out and let me know what you think!
i can draw!
So after talking to the program co-ordinator for multimedia, i have decided that i hate my current portfolio and i'm completely doing it over. this time i decided to get a little "animatey" and i've drawn some little critters to adorn my new site.
i drew them on paper, scanned the paper and drew them again on the computer. this is a very proud moment for me. i can't really draw on the computer too well and it's been years since i doodled something that looked semi decent.
they all have names too.
the green one is called: Bicuspid
the pink one is called: Rocket
the blue one is called: Dripple
the orange on is called: T-Bone
and the person one is me!
hopefully they'll look good in my portfolio which will soon be online at a new domain...but you'll have to wait until i've finish and then i'll announce it to all of my 2 readers! yay!
ok back to work time.
Single White Female (SWF) Seeks Well Paying Career (WPC)
We're getting down to the wire now. Only 2 weeks left of school and i needs to get me a job. the hunt is on...hopefully i'm "employable"
i've found some postings, but who knows if they'll even look at my resume. maybe i should print it on pink paper and have it scented...worked in Legally Blonde. haha.
Unproductive Day
Nothing school related got done
did do: cooked lunch, nuked dinner, chatted, emailed, wasted time, watched the last 20 minutes of America's Next Top Model, we got out of school late again and missed the start. boo. but at least we got to see Jade screw up her Cover Girl commercial. please don't let that girl win.
in other news: Jenny's coming to Ottawa this weekend!!! and she's bringing Chester Weatherby. i want his last name.
schedule for this weekend:
thursday - chillax day. have a rest day. class 6-9
friday - homework in the am, meet Jenny in ottawa in afternoon, homework in evening
sat - homework day, rent Narnia?
sun - homework, break for Benchwarmers at 2pm, maybe make a fancy dinner, more homework
school is drawing to a close therefore i have to finish projects plus thomas and i gots ourselves a real live client and we need to do work on that project too.
good luck to everyone who still has stuff to finish!
Zzzzzap!
There is a website online today that made a deal that if 259 people blogged about it, they will give a bunch of AppZappers away for free. sounds pretty cool - since i'm on board for free stuff, here's my post!

OMG I'm so Obsessed...
I have found a way to occupy my time in class!
finally, a way to spend the hours. haha
yesterday, while reading Jane's LouLou magazine, i noticed that they had an online contest so i went online and entered. then i thought, what if there are more contests for canadians....and there are! so freaking many. so i've been entering a whole bunch. the best sites (so as to share the love) are:

Recap: Trip to Edmonton
I'm currently babysitting and seeing as the kiddies are actually being quiet (watching Toy Story 2), i thought i'd catch up on my blog about last week.
I left for Edmonton last wednesday and after a LONNNG day of travelling, i finally arrived. I stayed with Leon and his family that night and then we got up nice and early to go to the Greater Edmonton Teachers Convention that we were speaking at. Since it had snowed for the first time the day before i got there, the roads were backed up like crazy and we missed the free breakfast, but that was ok because we found some muffins and stuff on the way. The convention was HUGE but not many people showed up to ours. too bad. our presentation was called "Cancer in the Classroom" where Leon talked about what a teacher should do if one of their students was diagnosed with cancer and i talked about the Survivor Network. i thought it went well and they gave me a free yoga mat as a thank you for participating. pretty amazing.
we stayed at the conference for some free lunch and Leon went to a couple of other presentations as i wandered around looking at booths. when we got back to Leon's house i gave Pam and call and we ended up heading over there. Pam and i went out for dinner at Boston Pizza and spent the night watching CSI and chatting away. met her awesome boyfriend who very kindly drove me to the greyhound station the following morning.
I then hopped on a bus for 2 hrs to Red Deer to meet up with Jeff who couldn't drive to see me in Edmonton because he'd put his snowboard through the back window of his car the day before. He met me at the station and we had a blast. we fixed his window with cardboard and duct tape and sat around watching hilarious SNL episodes he had on his computer.
Taryn also happened to be in town so we went out with her for dinner to celebrate her 5th year off treatment. after dinner we headed back to jeff's house where we watched a movie called Waiting with Ryan Reynolds and it was super funny.
I ended up going to Taryn's house that night and sleeping there because she decided she was going to drive back to Edmonton with me. Her mom made us yummy french toast in the morning and we headed back to Edmonton where we picked up Pam and went to West Edmonton Mall. The mall is really cool. we watched a seal show and saw flamingos and penguins. they also have a HUGE waterpark and a skating rink and rollercoasters. it's amazing.
We wandered around the mall until everyone else arrived for dinner. Mel, MaryBeth and Leon joined us and we all had a yummy dinner at Tony Romas. after dinner, Mary, Leon and Pam left and Taryn and Mel and I went out to meet Katie for dessert. we chatted for a couple of hours and then Taryn and I headed back to Mel's house with her.
Mel kept me up till about 3am (or 4, i can't remember!) chatting about so many things and then when i finally dozed off....it was time to get up for my flight. so, having roughly about 3 hrs of sleep, Mel and i set out for the airport....and she got lost. so lost in fact that i came THISCLOSE to missing my flight back. silly girl. when i finally got through security, i ran to my gate and got on the plane. close call.
after a 4 hour flight, we touched down back in Ottawa and it was time to go home...and sleep.
such a fun 5 days. glad i went...but now i have to deal with all the homework i avoided while i was there. aaahhhhhh.
Strike is ON
at just past 10:30 tonight, we received word that the lovely college thomas, jason and i attend, is going on strike.
estimated min time out: 3 weeks
estimated max time out: august
this both sucks and rocks.
now we can dedicate tons of time to finish our client projects, and do as much as we can to finish the projects that we need to do to pass the course.
and another nice bit: my dad is leaving for Japan soon so i can go and visit a little before he leaves, and then keep my mom and sister company after he goes.
dans le Edmonton
I've been traveling all day and i've made it in one piece. barely.
the first flight was 30minutes late and i almost missed my connecting flight from Calgary to Edmonton. But i'm here now and that's what matters.
tomorrow, Leon and i are making a presentation at some Teaching Conference about childhood cancer and the Survivor Network and hopefully i'll get to see some of my friends out here before i leave on sunday morning.
i've brough my computer because i have LOTS of work left to do that i'll attempt to do while i'm here.
now it's time to email my friends to see about them getting together
